Artificial Intelligence for Digital Dentistry | Dr. Ammar Alsheghri

Welcome to BioEngage!
Join us in this exciting video where Dr. Ammar Alsheghri who will explore the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on digital dentistry.

Overview:
The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the field of digital dentistry, enhancing both diagnostic accuracy and treatment efficiency. AI algorithms, including deep learning models, are increasingly being employed for tasks such as image analysis, diagnostic support, treatment planning, and personalized patient care. The use of AI in digital dentistry also extends to the automation of routine tasks, such as the design of dental prosthetics, which significantly reduces manual labor and increases consistency. This seminar explores the development and integration of deep learning models in digital dentistry, focusing on personalized design of 3D dental crowns, which has the potential to revolutionize the dental industry by speeding up procedures and ensuring high-quality crown designs at lower costs. The dental design framework is composed of segmentation and generation of deep learning models to process unstructured data of teeth and propose optimal personalized crown designs for patients. The seminar will also highlight the role of AI systems in enabling real-time feedback during dental procedures, enhancing procedural accuracy and patient safety. Despite the promising benefits, challenges such as data privacy, the need for large and diverse datasets, and integration with existing clinical workflows remain. Benefits, limitations, and future directions for research and development in this evolving field will be discussed.

Dr. Ammar Alsheghri joined the mechanical engineering department at KFUPM as an assistant professor in August 2023. Before joining KFUPM, he was working as a technology developer at Comet Technologies Canada Inc., where he participated in the development of the state-of-the-art scientific image processing software Dragonfly. Dr. Alsheghri earned his PhD from McGill University in 2020 in the field of Materials Engineering in collaboration with the faculty of Dentistry. He completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in the department of Computer and Software Engineering at Polytechnique Montreal in 2022. He is currently an affiliate of the KFUPM Biosystems and Machines Interdisciplinary Research Center. Dr. Alsheghri has authored more than 15 peer-reviewed research articles and 2 U.S. patents.
